You've got space...but is it really working for you?


Let's face it, space is expensive.  For a company to invest in a brick-and-mortar - whether that be corporate offices, a retail environment, or social gathering/services - there must be commitment to not only putting down roots but nurturing them to stay alive with, oftentimes, the hope of vast growth.

The really lovely thing about having your own space is gathering people.  People like employees, co-workers, clients, and communities are the fastest way to make a space come alive.  They are also the fastest way to make a space empty if it isn't serving them or is hard to understand.  The trick is to make a space that puts your people first.   

Unfortunately, it's all too common for decision-makers at the head of a business to make those decisions based solely on growing the bottom line - not people.  But in this mission-focused economy, that will only buy you a few years at best.  Consumers are steadily "voting with their dollars" and taking the extra time and money to support businesses that have integrity and connection throughout their service experiences - virtual and in-person.  Employees are searching for a workplace that will foster a healthy lifestyle, especially if they are to invest in your company for more than 1-2 years.  If your space is not reflecting your mission and your people at every touch point, you will lose staff and clients. 

And that bottom line?  Non-existent.

Connecting mission and experiences to space takes finessing of a few elements: the culture/operations, the programming/engagement, and the physical layout.  Each of these must work together to create a cohesive experience that clearly reflects the story and intention of the company across experiences.

It also requires the awareness of seemingly different groups: the stakeholders, the staff/employees, the patrons, and (sometimes) the public.

Spatial Audit™

With our Spatial Audit™ package, you are able to get clarity around the site-specific story of cultural, programmatic, and spatial elements unique to your space - those that reflect the mission and goals, those that could use a little help, and a roadmap to help you align them moving forward.

How it works

We spend (1) day observing in your space and use a framework for cultural observation called AEIOU'S - Activities, Events, Interactions, Objects, Uses, and Sociopolitical context.  If you are open to having us talk with staff/patrons/clients/etc, we make time and space to gather comments and input. 

After collecting data, we compile all of our findings into a Spatial Audit™ Report, complete with narratives, diagrams, and images that document the key takeaways.  Each report varies in content as each organization is different but the goal is always the same - to illustrate how your space is currently functioning and give you a roadmap for any cultural changes.

In addition to the AEIOU'S, we also use Architectural tools such as Circulation Diagrams (how people move through the space), Parti Diagrams (a high-level overview of the intention of the space/experience), and Programmatic Diagrams (where consistent program happens.)

At the end of our engagement, you will be have deep, documented knowledge of the spatial experience and culture in your organization. You will have the confidence to address issues and problems as they arise.  And you will have the tools to envision a new, more sustainable environment for your entire operation.



Who is it for?

This service is for businesses and leaders who have or will be hosting an event in existing physical space.  You know something could be better or you have a vision in your head of a future reality but you're unclear on how to get there.

What is the investment?

Packages start at $3,750.00 and are based on square footage, number of employees, and volume/type of traffic throughout the space.  Existing Plan Drawings, Test Fit Services, and more comprehensive Community Engagement Services are able to be added a la carte as needed (individual fees based on scope of work.)

What do I get?

At the end of our engagement, you will have a Spatial Audit™ Report (example below) with narratives, diagrams, and images that document the key takeaways.  Each organization is different so each report varies in content and length.



Next Steps

Step 1: Schedule a Project Consult - this is a 30-minute call to assess the project size, goals, process, and cost. When you follow the link, it will prompt you to fill out the Project Intake Form with information such as general square footage of your space, number of employees, business and cultural goals, scope of project, etc. During this first call we will hear your concerns, review the project logistics, and advise on the best Spatial Audit™ Package for your needs. Once you agree to services, you will receive a payment link within 24 hours.

Step 2: Pay the deposit - the moment you submit the Project Intake form we’ve started working on your space but the deposit ensures we have time on the calendar just for you! Once you complete payment, we will send you a link to reserve our time in your space.

Step 3: Reserve the On-site Observational Day - this appointment will be the full observational day* in your space in order to fully document what is happening and will be the basis for the report and recommendations.  *Note: number of observational days are determined by size of space, number of employees, and volume/type of traffic. This will be determined during the Project Consult.

Step 4: Prepare for our visit - alert your staff and/or clients that we will be in the space.  If direct interaction is welcome, let them know what we are doing and that feedback is encouraged.
